Mission and Values

The Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) is home to an outstanding team of men and women united around a common mission:

  • To contribute significantly to the advancement of health research by shedding light on the workings of the immune system and the causes of cancer
  • To provide exceptional training to investigators in-the-making
  • To develop therapies to stop the suffering and premature death caused by cancer

The core values of IRIC and its researchers are excellence and integrity in teaching and research, creativity, innovation, collaboration, and collegiality. IRIC currently brings together 24 research teams led by wolrd-renowned scientists from Canada, Europe and the United States. IRIC also operates 12 state-of-the-art core facilities.  Our team is expected to double in size in the coming years, bringing to a total of 500 the number of investigators, postdoctoral fellows, students, technicians and professionals who work at IRIC.

We are recruiting scientists who are passionate about their work and thrive on collaborations with peers from other disciplines. IRIC distinguishes itself as a reference in systems biology, where chemistry, computer science, medicine, biophysics, engineering, and mathematics are combined with cellular and molecular biology to shed light on complex living systems.

Everything at IRIC – from its spectacular open architecture to the diversity of its state-of-the-art core facilities– aims to promote interactions between scientists. The collegial atmosphere which characterizes IRIC favours collaborative work, as eloquently shown by the IRIC interactome below.

The IRIC interactome (November 2008) depicts the network of interactions among research teams (red) and between research teams and core facilities (blue). The extent of collaboration is indicative of the team spirit that prevails at IRIC.
