Functional and Structural Bioinformatics

under the supervision of

  • Guest Investigator, Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer

The functional and structural bioinformatics research unit is currently dedicating its efforts to the development of DNA chip optimization methods. The state of a cell can be described by the repertory and abundance of transcribed genes, information which can be obtained by using DNA chips. In its present form, this technique is considered imprecise in practice. Our efforts aim to increase this precision by acting both on the laboratory protocol and on the computer analysis methods. In the laboratory, optimization of the marking technique and the development of a new digitization approach are of particularly interest to us. In information technology, we are working on the development of statistical methods to obtain a more precise characterization of the transcription profiles. We are counting on direct analysis of the images obtained from the microchip digitizer to increase this precision.
