Research topic and relevance

Paul Maddox and his team study the basic mechanisms of cell division. They focus primarily on improving our understanding of kinetochores, which are large protein structures that are essential for dividing cells. Their interest for these structures stems from the fact that their only role seems to involve cell division making them ideal cancer therapy targets, since they are less likely to affect other cell process or to produce unwanted side effects.
