Gregory Emery studied at the University of Geneva before obtaining his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2002, under the supervision of Investigator Jean Gruenberg. He then went to Vienna, Austria, where he completed postdoctoral training at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology and at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. His work, under the supervision of Juergen A Knoblich, enabled him to become familiar with the fruit fly. IRIC recruited him in 2007.

He currently holds the position of Principal Investigator of the Vesicular Trafficking and Cell Signalling Research Unit of IRIC.
