ABOUT THE EVENT

The IRIC Student Recruitment Event offers students interested in pursuing graduate studies in the field of cancer research a unique opportunity to participate in an international student recruitment event at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the Université de Montréal. The 2018 edition will take place from June 13th to 16th, 2018.

During the event, participants:

  • Visit IRIC, its laboratories and core facilities;
  • Meet IRIC principal investigators and students and discuss with them during various networking activities;
  • Learn more about the MSc and PhD research projects and graduate programs offered at IRIC;
  • Participate in a full day of one-on-one interviews with the IRIC principal investigators of their choice;
  • Explore the campus of the Université de Montréal;
  • Participate in an evening of activities in downtown Montreal with IRIC students.

Activities are offered in English.

Following the event, participants may receive a recruitment offer from one or many IRIC principal investigators. Offers will be valid from Fall 2018 to Fall 2019. Recruited students will also be guaranteed to receive competitive financial support during their training at IRIC ($20,000 per year for MSc students, $22,500 per year for PhD students).

REIMBURSEMENT OF TRAVEL EXPENSES,
ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS

Participants benefit from:

  • Reimbursement of their travel expenses incurred (up to a maximum of $CAD 500);
  • Accommodation for 4 nights at the Studios Hotel of the Université de Montréal;
  • 3 meals per day for 3 days;
  • An access card valid for 3 consecutive days of unlimited travel through the Montreal public transit system.

 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for the IRIC Student Recruitment Event, you must:

  • Demonstrate strong interest in undertaking graduate studies (MSc and/or PhD) in the field of cancer research;
  • Have successfully completed or be enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program (or the equivalent) in a discipline related to life sciences or biomedical research;
  • Have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.3 (70 %, B, 12 out of 20, or the equivalent) for MSc candidates, and 3.3 out of 4.3 (75 %, B+, or 13 out of 20, or the equivalent) for PhD candidates;
  • Be ready to start a graduate program in Fall 2018, Winter 2019, Summer 2019 or Fall 2019 for Canadian students or permanent residents of Canada, and in Winter 2019, Summer 2019 or Fall 2019 for international students.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

To be considered complete, your application package must include the following documents:

  • The application form, duly completed (click here to download the form);
  • A letter of intent describing 1) your academic background and past research experiences, 2) your scientific interests and desire to pursue graduate studies in the field of cancer research, 3) your academic and career goals, 4) the names of researchers with whom you would like to pursue your studies and the reasons for your choice, 5) your reasons for wanting to participate in the 2018 IRIC Student Recruitement Event;
  • A transcript of your complete university-level academic record to date (scanned documents accepted);
  • Your resume;
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors or others who can attest to the quality and strength of your academic achievement including, if applicable, any research experience you may have. These letters are optional for MSc candidates but required for PhD candidates. They must be emailed to us directly by your referees at recruitmentevent@iric.ca.

You should send the application form in MS-Word format. All the additional documents have to be assembled in one PDF file. Please name your 2 documents as follow: LastName_FirstName and send them to recruitmentevent@iric.ca.

Applications will be evaluated after the deadline by a selectioncommittee composed of IRIC principal investigators. Results will be communicated at the end of April 2018.

Successful applicants will receive an official invitation with the final details on the event.
