Go behind the scenes of cancer research!

November 16, 2023

The 4th edition of the event Dans les coulisses de la recherche sur le cancer will take place next Thursday, November 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the University of Montreal. For this occasion, 18 members of the IRIC student community will share their passion for science with 150 people from the public, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Hosted by Catherine Perrin, host of the show Feu vert on ICI PREMIÈRE and author, this friendly evening constitutes a unique opportunity to learn more about the subjects that interest our research teams and to discuss with the next generation of scientists.

“I’ve always been fascinated by medical science: every radio interview I conduct on the subject is both a challenge and a pleasure,” Catherine Perrin points out. “Developing a taste for outreach and communication among young scientists is a gift for the whole society!”

For Lucyle Depoërs, doctoral student in Claude Perreault’s laboratory and co-president of the event, this meeting with the public represents a crucial step in her training journey: “Participating in this evening is a unique opportunity for us, young scientists, to take up the challenge of making the complexity of research accessible and captivating. This evening has a double purpose: it gives meaning to our efforts in the field of research and offers the public the opportunity to explore, in a fun and relaxed way, advances in the fight against cancer.”

Julie Lessard, director of the Chromatin Structure and Stem Cell Biology Research Unit at IRIC and professor in the Department of Pathology and Cellular Biology, will speak on stage alongside Catherine Perrin. “IRIC’s mission is to discover new avenues to fight cancer and this event is an exceptional showcase to share our advances with the general public,” she emphasizes. “In addition, this evening highlights our young scientists, the real drivers of progress within our Institute.”

William Brock, Chairman of the IRIC Board of Directors, also participating in the discussion on stage, comments on the importance of raising public awareness of the field of research: “Cancer research is a quest for hope and healing for patients, an exploration of the frontiers of knowledge to find solutions that will change lives. By going behind the scenes of research at this event, we offer everyone the opportunity to better understand and support discoveries that could one day change lives. »

The return of Dans les coulisses de la recherche sur le cancer is part of the special programming aimed at highlighting IRIC’s 20 years of existence. Be part of it!
