Vincent Poitout
IRIC Vice-Rector Research and Innovation, University of Montreal
With a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort and a doctorate in life sciences from the University of Paris IV, Dr. Poitout was a researcher at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research and an investigator at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute in Seattle. Before joining the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal and the CHUM Research Center in 2005, he was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Washington. He served as Director of Research and Innovation at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and as Scientific Director of the hospital’s research center for nearly 10 years before accepting this new position at the Vice-Rectorate for Research. His research focuses primarily on type 2 diabetes, a field in which he is internationally recognized. He held the Canada Research Chair in Diabetes and Pancreatic Beta Cell Function from 2006 to 2020.
Vincent Poitout has been Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation at the Université de Montréal since June 1, 2025. As Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation, his main mandate is to coordinate and guide all scientific activities at the Université de Montréal.
