Donations for the next generation of scientists - Congratulations to the 4 recipients of IRIC’s Salary Awards Competition for Postdoctoral Fellows

Published on October 4, 2021

Four young investigators won the IRIC Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition. This year, these four grants were awarded thanks to dedicated donations.

Congratulations to:

  • Élodie Tepaz; Bouvier Lab; Power Corporation of Canada Emerging Scientist Award
  • Mehdi Ghram; Borden Lab; Baumgartner Fellowship
  • Jean-François Theriault; Mader Lab; IRIC grant
  • Joaquim Javary; Meloche Lab; Power Corporation of Canada Emerging Scientist Award

Created for the purpose of supporting postdoctoral fellows possessing an outstanding research record, but who do not benefit from any substantial scholarship, the competition provides recipients with salary awards worth $25,000 for one year.

All four recipients were selected for the quality of the research project presented, their excellent publication record and their outstanding academic record.

As a result, the student awardees will be able to tackle their research work which will involve various aspects of cancer research, such as understanding normal and disturbed cell and molecular mechanisms in cancer, discovering new biomarkers, developing prediction and diagnostic tools, identifying potential targets and molecules with therapeutic powers, etc.

Through these donations, IRIC’s partners illustrate their commitment to the development of the academic careers of the next generation of scientists. IRIC wishes to acknowledge the exemplary generosity of Mrs. Rita Baumgartner and Mr. Aldo Baumgartner as well as of Power Corporation of Canada.

The IRIC community is very grateful for this support. The curiosity and determination of young scientists are crucial to making a difference in the fight against cancer.
