After obtaining his Ph.D. in Molecular and Medical Genetics at the University of Toronto, Dr. Matthew Smith carried out a postdoctoral fellowship in the Medical Biophysics Department of the Ontario Cancer Institute.

He joined IRIC in December of 2015 as a Principal Investigator in the Cancer Signalling and Structural Biology Research Unit. He holds a position of Research Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine, and a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Cancer Signalling and Structural Biology.

Cancer Signalling and Structural Biology

The research carried out by Matthew J. Smith and his team aims to integrate modern experimental approaches in structural biology, biophysics, evolutionary bioinformatics and cell biology to help identify and understand both normal and disrupted cell signalling at a mechanistic and systems level.
