June 26, 2025 UM171 breaks new ground
Just a few years ago, there was little hope for people suffering from hematological malignancies requiring stem cell transplants, such as acute leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. Today, thanks to the work of Guy Sauvageau and Anne Marinier, new treatment options are gradually entering the market worldwide. Experts in the molecular genetics of stem cells and medicinal chemistry respectively, the two IRIC scientists and UdeM professors were behind the discovery of the UM171 molecule, which saw the light of day in 2014.

Doris Alexandra Schuetz is an inspiration to many members of the IRIC community. A committed professional dedicated to the fight against cancer on a daily basis, Doris also excels at running, a sport she has been practising for several years now. Eager to combine business with pleasure, Doris has raised close to $5,000 for cancer research at IRIC since 2022, through her participation in the Montreal Beneva Marathon. IRIC is proud to introduce you to this inspiring person.

IRIC recognizes the act of generosity of the Collège Nouvelles Frontières. During one of their “paid civilian days” where students are allowed to trade in their uniforms for the clothes of their choice, they also take advantage of this anticipated day to raise funds to support the community.

IRIC is pleased with the announcement of the Quebec Minister of Economy and Innovation, Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon, regarding the unveiling of the Quebec Life Sciences Strategy 2022-2025 during the renowned event Effervescence. Under the theme “Using our ingenuity to advance health”, the strategy, updated in the context of COVID-19, proposes concrete and innovative actions to promote this key industry of the Quebec economy and encourage its growth.

January 24, 2022 Investing in research: a move that pays off
A possible therapeutic ovarian cancer vaccine, a new treatment to fight leukemia and a molecule that could even short-circuit up to 70% of all types of cancers… These three projects, currently under development at IRIC, benefited from funds provided through private donations. Among them, publicly traded securities are a beneficial way to contribute to the next generation of cancer treatments.

September 22, 2021 2021 student recruitment tour: again, a virtual edition this fall
Each fall, the IRIC’s Academic Affairs team launches an “IRIC on the road” student recruitment tour. This year, our representatives are going to meet students virtually. They will participate in several graduate studies fairs organized on the web by various Canadian universities.
